Poetry on Fingertips: Double-Layer Beaded Tatting Pattern by XichenArt

Today I am sharing an elegant tatting pattern from XichenArt. This design combines beautiful beadwork with the split ring technique, making it perfect for creating delicate tatted rings or bracelets.

Materials Needed

  • Tatting Thread: Tatting lace thread in an appropriate size (such as size 80 or 40).
  • Seed Beads: 2mm or 1.5mm seed beads (colors of your choice).
  • Shuttles: 2 shuttles (required for the split ring technique).

Pattern Symbols and Key

  • White Triangle (start): Represents the starting point of the tatting.
  • Black Triangle (finish): Represents the finishing point.
  • Blue Rings: Represent split rings.
  • Pink Dots: Represent the 2mm or 1.5mm seed beads added during tatting.
  • Numbers in the Diagram: Represent the number of double stitches (ds). For example, “2” means 2ds, and “4” means 4ds.

Bead Loading Preparation
Before you begin tatting, load the beads onto your threads according to the green leaf diagram. Slide the required number of pink seed beads onto both sides of the center line, securing them at the ends.

Core Tatting Steps

  1. Begin at the white triangle labeled “start” on the left side.
  2. Tat the first ring A with 4 double stitches.
  3. Following the blue lines, use two shuttles to tat the split rings. While forming the rings, slide and join the pink beads at the positions indicated by the numbers (e.g., 2-2-2).
  4. Repeat this double-layer ring structure sequentially to move forward.

Length Adjustment and Finishing

  • Adjusting Length: Repeat the tatting pattern until it reaches the appropriate finger length (for a ring) or wrist length (for a bracelet).
  • Joining the Ends: Once the desired length is reached, join the final stitches with the starting A ring and B ring. Finally, tat a chain of 4 double stitches and join it to the bottom of the B ring.
  • Finishing: Cut the thread, tie a knot, and hide the ends at the black triangle labeled “finish”.
